Comment to "Flat Earth Foolishness"

I posted the following comment to the video at

There is a banner behind you that states: "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him." Nahum 1:7. That is true and you are exhibit A for one who does NOT trust in God.

You call those who believe in God’s creation of a flat and stationary earth "fools." You fail to realize that the gospel indeed appears foolish to the lost world. "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1:18) Lying about the gospel to make it palatable to the unsaved is not the answer. The world must hear the entire unvarnished gospel. You do not understand that the gospel is spiritually discerned. "[T]he natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:14) If you think that the clear statement in God’s word that the earth is flat is foolishness, what does that say about you? "For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." (1 Corinthians 1:21).

God describes in his Bible his creation of a flat and stationary earth.

"And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." (Genesis 1:2)

That passage describes a flat earth. A "face" is defined as any of the individual flat surfaces of a solid object. Since a sphere has no flat surface, a sphere cannot have a face. That means that God did not move upon spherical waters, since a sphere does not have a face. Water cannot form a "deep" on the side of a sphere; water at rest is always flat. God moved upon the face of flat waters. At that time the waters covered 100% of the earth. Today, the oceans cover 71% of the earth’s surface. It is impossible for the earth to be a sphere when 71% of its surface is covered by water, which at rest necessarily must be flat and level. We know that there was water entirely covering the earth upon its creation because God states that "darkness was upon the face of the deep." God describes his movement over the face of the waters, and since the surface of all water at rest is flat and level, the earth must have been flat from the beginning.

Notice that in Proverbs 8:27 God is setting the compass on the "face" of the depth. As we have seen, a face is any of the individual flat surfaces of a solid object. Since a sphere has no flat surface, a sphere cannot have a face, thus the reference in Proverbs 8:27 to God setting "a compass upon the face of the depth" can mean only one thing, God set a circular compass upon the flat water that covers the earth.

The Math is Fun website is a mathematics website for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is based upon the New York State Education Curriculum. It is reviewed for accuracy by "Les Bill Gates, Graduate of Oxford University with an Honours degree in Mathematics, and a post-graduate Certificate in Education," and "David Sevilla, Doctorate in Mathematics." The Math is Fun website states that a face could be "any of the individual flat surfaces of a solid object." Thus, because a sphere has no flat surface, a sphere cannot have a face. This is confirmed by the Math is Fun website, which states, in pertinent part, that a sphere has "one surface (not a ‘face’ as it isn’t flat)."

God sits upon the "circle" of the earth.

"It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in." (Isaiah 40:22)

You have suggested that the "circle" in Isaiah 40:22 actually refers to a "sphere." You seem not to understand basic geometry. A circle is not the same as a sphere. A circle is a flat plane where every point on the circumference is equidistant from the center. A circle cannot be a sphere, because with a sphere not all points are on the same plane, a sphere is a ball, not a circle. A circle is not the same as a ball. A circle is a flat plane whose circumference is equidistant from the center. Indeed, when people refer to a ball they never call it a circle. Can you imagine a player asking his soccer teammate to pass him the "circle?" Nobody confuses a circle with a ball, and you can be sure that God knows the difference. The earth is described by God as a circle (i.e., a flat plane) in the Bible because it is true. "[L]let God be true, but every man a liar." Romans 3:2.
